COOKING WITH COCONUT OIL



Coconut oil is on everyone’s lips lately (quite literally!) you will also find it in their kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and the list goes on! So what is the reason behind this recent obsession? Is it just a marketing spin? Anyone who uses it knows it’s not, rather what underlies the popularity of coconut oil is the abundant amount of benefits it can bring to one’s health, appearance and well-being.


So if you are new to the world of coconut oil, over the next couple of weeks I am going to tell you some great easy ways you can use and benefit from it….starting with in the kitchen!


COOK WITH IT:


Coconut oil is great to cook with, it is becoming more of a staple cooking oil in many households and a great replacement for processed oils and margarine. It is mainly a saturated fat which is able to withstand higher temperatures than other oils. Did you just see the word ‘fat’ and mentally push away the coconut oil jar?! Well bring it right back because the good news is that coconut oil contains short term medium-chain saturated fatty acids, which is a "healthy" form of saturated fat which are easier to digest, are anti-microbial, anti-fungal, are processed by the liver and converted into energy rather than being stored as fat. In fact there are hundreds of studies that have found that coconut oil is one of the healthiest foods on the planet!


One of the things I love most about coconut oil is that it tastes amazing and is so easy to add into your food, so you don’t have to limit it to being just a cooking oil but bake with it, add it to smoothies and my personal favourite- take it by the spoonful! There are a sheer amount of health claims that consuming coconut oil can do everything from aiding weight loss to slowing the progression of Alzheimer's disease which could be why it’s a kitchen shelf must-have in many houses!
